2012 Venture Camp at Camp Birch - July 8-14, 2012

Join Us for Venture Camp and Help Us Celebrate Camp Birch's 80th Anniversary at One of the Only Nationally Accredited Venture Camps in the Region

Improved Registration Process! New Activities and Programs!  Provisional Crew Available for Venturers Not Attending with their Own Crew!

Venturing Resident Camp has a lot in common with Boy Scout Camp: a week spent camping with friends, days spent working on advancement, evenings spent relaxing around the campfire, slushies at the trading post, family style meals in the dining hall, the familiar sounds of crickets and tree frogs as you fall asleep under a star-filled sky, memories to last a lifetime...but it is also very different!

Advancement in Venturing differs from Boy Scouts in that the requirements are often designed to be a more difficult, long-term learning experience. There is often also a teaching element where you finish the elective by teaching someone else what you have learned, or by creating a table-top display. Many of the electives are not designed to be fit into a week-long camp as easily as merit badges are. Our camp has been developed to provide the learning intensive portions of an elective, or those requirements that need special equipment and are best done at camp.

Another difference is that for Boy Scout Camp, planning which merit badges to take is mostly done on an individual basis. While this could work for a lone Venturer, it is more likely that a Crew will plan their advancement activities together, and benefit from the camaraderie and teamwork that comes from developing skills alongside one another. Planning to attend camp is best started early, giving Crew members time to coordinate their advancement choices and complete any prerequisites assigned for their courses.

A further challenge in developing a Venturing Camp is that different electives can vary considerably in the length of time they take to cover the requirements. Some are very time intensive and others can be completed in a relatively short time so that the different electives don’t all fit neatly into the same time schedule. We have developed a “menu” to allow Venturers to get the most out of their time at camp.

New Programs Offered in 2012

Your crew can build its own week of program. Each day is made up of 2 x 3 hour program blocks. Use our “menu” to put together your own week of program. With a budget of 30 program hours and a large selection of activities to choose from, you are guaranteed to find a formula that fits your crew to give everyone a week of learning, skill building and fun. We will also be offering these new electives: Mountain Biking, Equestrian and Outdoor Living History.

New On-Line Registration

Tecumseh Council is excited to announce online registration for the 2012 Camp Season!

Starting June 24, 2011, you may log on to the Tecumseh Council website and register your unit for a week of summer camp in 2012 all from the convenience of your nearest computer. As soon as you are ready, a representative from your Crew should make an online registration through the website to register your Crew. At the time of registration you will be asked for your contact information, an estimate of the number of campers that may attend, your campsite preference, and to provide your $100 camp deposit (payable by credit card or electronic check). This will get your unit signed up for the 2012 Summer Camp Season! Once your unit has registered, your Crew's representative will receive email communications about the registration process and other summer camp news.

On February 1, 2012, participant registration will be enabled allowing you to register your individual Venture and adult campers. The $50 minimum camper fees will be payable at the time of participant registration. You may pay online against the balance any time throughout the spring months with full payment for the Early Bird discount being due on May 5, 2012.  Registrations received after May 5, 2012 will be charged the full price.

On April 1, 2012 the council will enable online signups for Core Requirements, Electives, Awards and other activities. You must have your participants registered first before they can sign up for classes and activities.

Advisor’s and President’s Dinner

This will take place on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Camp Birch Dining Hall. Key staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide detailed explanations about how the program will run.
