Basic NRA Pistol Course

Shooting Sports Ranger Award Elective for a basic training course.

WHAT: Venture Crew 6 will host a NRA Basic Pistol course consisting of 8 hours (minimum) of class room instruction (CCW portion for adults is 12 hours *).

WHERE: THE VFW Grimes-Kohl Post No 1031, 1237 E Main St, Springfield, OH. 45503
(in the rear building where the BSA Venture Crew 6 meets).

COST: $25 for Venture Crew Members and registered Boy Scout/Venture Leaders

(I will need a copy of your unit charter roster as Scouts Shoot for Free at Miami Valley indoor Shooting Range),

and $35 for Non-Scout (minimum age is 14). Class size will be limited to 15

WHEN: 6 to 9pm (3 hours), Jan 9th, 16th and the 23rd, 2013.

* Adults 21+ wishing to extend the basic NRA Pistol course to complete the 12 hour CCW course will require

1 extra classroom session also held at the same location (Time/Date T.B.D.).

Shooting Range – Pistol course qualification will be held at the Miami Valley Indoor Shooting grounds at

309 East Leffel Lane.

Adults and non-Scouting youth will be charged ~$15 at the range to shoot.


.22 ammo and .22 caliber pistols will be provided for the shooting requirement.

Students are encouraged to bring their own pistols (any caliber) to class and range


NRA Course Certificates and NRA Practical Rocker patches (optional cost) will be awarded ONLY after

completing the open book test and range shooting exercise.

Course fee will be due 2 weeks before the class starts (Dec. 17th, 2012).

The NRA Course packet contains materials issued to students during the class:
NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure,
Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, Concealed Carry Holster Guide, Basic Pistol Student Exam, and Basic Pistol Course Certificate and Practical rocker patch.

Optional (additional cost ~$4 per person for Certificate and additional Rocker Patches) items include: Pro Marksman / Marksman for the Winchester Marksman-ship Program and can be completed during the course shooting requirement.. This needs to be paid with the course payment.

Basic NRA Pistol Course Registration

Please provide an official Scout roster (from the recharter roster) highlighting the names/ages of the Scouts/Leaders who intend to wish to shoot at the indoor range.
