Springfield Memorial Day Parade - May 31, 2010

by: D.G. Adams, ASM Troop 311

More than 100 Scouts from the Lagonda District, Tecumseh Council #439 assembled for the Memorial Parade in Springfield this year.  The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating the 100th year of Scouting in the United States. The fully uniformed group included - Crew 311, Troops: 1, 311 and 316, Packs: 20 and 338 as well as a single Girl Scout, parents and siblings.

The weather was ideal for a parade, HOT, and this year the parade was bigger (and longer) than expected. We had an awesome "camping themed float & truck" from Pack 173 and lots of unit flags and banners from all involved.  Several brought along several American flags.  We put them out in front, for all to see.

Ben and Alec, from Troop 311 and two of several Order of the Arrow Scouts in the parade, escorted Scouts along the parade route.  All Scouts participating in the parade were proud to honor those who have served this great nation.

D.G. Adams, Assistant Scout Master of Pack 311 and one of Lagonda's Unit Commissioners served as the point of contact for any Council Scouts this year.  If you'd like to join the Scout group for 2011 please let him know. [Click for member's page]
