Fall 2013 Tecumseh Council Shooting Sports Training

Sponsored by Venture Crew 71

In an effort to enhance Shooting Sports in Tecumseh Council, Venture Crew 71 is sponsoring and conducting the following training courses for certifications required by BSA to run the various shooting ranges and activities at Camp Birch and shooting activities allowed at unit, district and council levels through the council.  All shooting activities must be supervised by properly certified people.  BB and Archery ranges must be supervised by BSA Range Master certified persons over 18 Years old.  Rifle and shotgun ranges must be supervised by NRA certified Range Safety Officers and NRA/NMLRA Certified Instructors for the discipline being fired.  They may not be the same person.

Many Packs, Troops, and Venture Crews want to participate in shooting sports activities throughout the year and we need properly certified adults to enable these activities.  These courses are presented by NRA Certified Instructors, NRA Training Counselors, BSA certified Shooting Sports Directors and ODNR/DOW Instructors.  All the courses will be held at Camp Birch either at the training lodge or the Turner Building depending on the number of participants that sign up.  All courses are open to registered Scouts, Venturers and Scouters.

Participants outside BSA will require approval of the instructors and will be charged an additional $25 per course.

NRA Basic Courses are prerequisites for NRA Instructor Courses.  The instructor courses are open to adults and youth age 13 or older.  Youth ages 13 thru 17 may become NRA Apprentice Instructors.  Youth ages 18 thru 20 may become NRA Assistant Instructors.  Only adults age 21 and older may become certified NRA Instructors.  Only folks 21 years old or older may become certified NRA  RSOs.  There is no charge for the ODNR courses.  Depending upon the response the class sizes may have to be limited.

All courses will be held at BSA Camp Birch, 4023 Swimming Pool Rd., Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387.  There will be signs in the parking lot.
