Scouting For Food 2020

Every year, the Boy Scouts of America and Tecumseh Council ask its volunteers, Scouts, and families to take part in a community service that gives a helping hand to the areas in which they live:  Scouting For Food.

Door by door, neighborhood by neighborhood, our members seek assistance for the less fortunate by encouraging the donation of food and household items by members of the community. We then, in turn, deliver the donated items to local food banks. It is a much-needed service that helps those who require it the most. It is a good deed we can all be proud of.

In 2020, the rise of the Coronavirus -- or Covid-19 --  generated many changes to our lives. Due to social distancing guidelines and other health concerns, the primary goal of keeping our Scouting youth and their families safe made it impossible to hold our annual Scouting for Food Drive.  This left food banks across the five counties Tecumseh Council serves, more hard-pressed to fill their pantries. However, despite the ongoing health crisis threatening the world, OUR Tecumseh Council – as it always does – has found a way to address the needs of the community and to do a good turn.

After a short delay, Scouting for Food is back on! Beginning on April 21st and running until May 10th, monetary donations are being accepted from the public-at-large through the Council website:

Donors will indicate which of the five counties serviced by Tecumseh Council are to receive their donations. These funds will in turn be donated on their behalf to the primary food banks in each county. The food banks slated to receive the donations are:

  • Our Daily Bread (Logan County/Blue Jacket District)
  • Second Harvest Food Bank (Champaign & Clark County/Bullskin Trail and Lagonda Districts)
  • FISH Food Pantries (Greene County/Chillicothe District)
  • Your Father’s Kitchen (Clinton County/R.E. Hadley District)

In order to promote the digital food-drive, Tecumseh Council is using its Facebook Page, Twitter account, and website to advertise the donation link, and is encouraging its members to do the same where possible. The food banks listed above are also adding the information to their websites. Our District Executives are asking the various Chambers of Commerce, Kiwanis Clubs, and Rotaries they deal with to do the same.

Each and every day, those involved in Scouting are asked – are expected -- to do their best, to help other people at all times. We as a Council and as individuals hold these ideals within our hearts. Providing assistance to those in need cannot be stopped no matter what crisis rears its ugly head.  Scouts have always - and WILL always -- find a way to overcome any obstacle.

Scouting For Food is ON.
