Oceanography Merit Badge Workshop presented by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Oceanography Merit Badge Registration is limited to the first 130 Scouts!

(Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshop)

Explore the oceans and earn your Oceanography merit badge right here at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! We invite you to join us and have fun with hands-on activities while earning your requirements. Program highlights include a visit to our Discovery Reef and Manatee Coast exhibits and the use of the Zoo’s many resources.

When: Sunday, April 15th, 2012 or Saturday, April 28th, 2012

Where: Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 4850 W Powell Rd., Powell, OH 43065

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $36.00 per Scout (Leaders remaining with the boys during the program are admitted at no charge. Please limit to 2-4 adults.)

To Register: Registration opens Friday, February 10th at 8:00 a.m. Pre-registration is required. Registrations are only processed online at www.columbuszoo.orgExternal Link under the “Learn at the Zoo” tab then choose “Boy Scouts” under the “Education Program Information". When you click on “Book Now” the availability calendar will pop-up.

Additional Oceanography Workshop Details:

• Admission to the Zoo and parking are automatically included.

• It is not required, but we highly recommend that you register as a troop.

• Pre-payment is required through our online registration system.

• This badge workshop is not all-inclusive. During this program scouts will accomplish eight of ten requirements. Requirement eight is not completed and can be done as a post-requirement.

• The tenth requirement is a short take-home quiz to be completed by the scout. Upon completion of these last two requirements, the scouts will be eligible for their Oceanography Merit Badge. Scouts will need to send their blue card, completed quiz, and Requirement #8 to Amy after the program. No blue cards will be signed the day of the program!

• Scouts are on their own for lunch. Lunch is not included, but scouts may pack a lunch or purchase lunch at our food stands.

• Due to the badge requirements, we will not be visiting all areas of the Zoo, but you are welcome to explore the Zoo during the lunch hour.

• Due to the varying ages of scouts for this workshop, adult supervision is not required for older scouts deemed mature enough to be on their own during the lunch period. Scouts will be in a group the entire workshop except during lunch.

• Adults/Leaders that remain with the Scouts during the program are admitted at no extra charge depending on the number of Scouts in your group. Please limit maximum number of adults to 4.

- If bringing 10 Scouts or less, up to 2 adults are admitted

- If bringing 11 – 14 Scouts, up to 3 adults are admitted

- If bringing 15 – 20 Scouts, up to 4 adults are admitted
