Local Scout Receives National Eagle Scout Scholarship

Sean Crumley of Troop 258 in Bull Skin Trail District, has been selected to receive one of twenty-eight $2,500 Mabel and Lawrence S. Cooke Eagle Scout scholarships.

More than 5,000 applications were submitted for different Eagle Scout scholarship programs. Sean’s selection as a Cooke scholarship recipient represents recognition of his superb record of accomplishments.

The National Eagle Scout Association, under the direction of the National Development Office, Boy Scouts of America, selects the winner of this scholarship by a committee. This committee also determines the number and size of all scholarships to be granted each year to deserving Eagle Scouts graduating for high school.

Besides being a high school graduating senior, applicants must also be currently registered in the Boy Scouts of America, have been granted the Eagle Scout Award prior to submitting the application and have an SAT and/or ACT score acceptable to the standards set by the committee. Additionally, each candidate must have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of Scouting, possess a financial need and have the endorsement of a volunteer or professional Scout leader who knows the applicant personally.

One of the nation’s largest youth development organizations, the Boy Scouts of America currently has 2.8 million youth members and more than a million adult volunteers.

Applications for the 2011 Eagle Scout scholarship program will be available at www.nesa.orgExternal Link beginning in October 2010, with a submission deadline of January 31, 2011.
