Tecumshe Council rated No. 1 Scouting program in nation out of 296 Boy Scout councils

Tecumseh Council, Boy Scouts of America, serving Clark, Greene, Clinton, Champaign and Logan counties earned the top rating year-to-date in the Journey to Excellence benchmark system for Boy Scout councils across the country.

Journey to Excellence is a performance assessment, communication and recognition program for Boy Scout councils nationwide.  The JTE ratings system was developed to measure the success of Boy Scout councils in 17 key areas of program, unit service, finance, membership, leadership and governance.

“Everyone in our community should take pride that we are nationally recognized as the number one Scout program in the country.  Leadership training for the next generation is the best work of my life,” said Clayton Hays, Tecumseh Council President.

Boy Scouts of America offers four unique program experiences.  Cub Scouts is a fun, family oriented program for boys in 1st thru 5th grades. Boy Scouts is a leadership development program offering over 120 merit badges for boys in 6th grade thru 18 years of age.  Venturing is a high adventure, community service program for teenage boys and girls 14 to 21 years of age.  Exploring is an after school career education program for teenage boys and girls 14 to 21 years of age.  Currently, more than 3,700 area youth participate in Tecumseh Council Scouting programs.

“In Scouting, no child sits on the bench and every member has a chance to shine. Scouts learn new skills along with developing their talents by mentoring others. Being an Eagle Scout is considered to be the top youth achievement looked at by many employers.  Independent research has shown that Scouts earn better grades, hold more leadership positions and join more clubs. Quite simply, they are some of the future leaders in society.”
