Camp Birch Maple Syrup

Camp Birch is making maple syrup again this year. If you or your unit would like to come out and see how maple syrup is made or even help in the process you have the opportunity. We will be running the sugar shack daily as mother nature permits, sap flows best when it is above freezing and sunny during the day and below freezing at night. So watch the thermometer and come out to enjoy the experience of making pure maple syrup.

The sugar shack is located at Fallen Timbers campsite off of SR-343. From Yellow Springs take SR-343 towards Camp Birch go past the road that goes to John Bryan State park, and take the first gravel drive. The entrance is across the road from the grey barn and you will see white buckets in the woods. From Clifton take SR-343 past swimming pool road and the gravel drive is on your left across from the grey barn. If you have a large group you may want to meet in the Camp Birch parking lot and shuttle your group out to Fallen Timbers due to the size of the parking lot.

We collected sap last week when it was warm and are making syrup in the afternoons and evenings during the week and on the weekends.

Syrup will be sold as it is finished, it will be available at the Council Office and the sugar shack. For more information contact Carl Conover at [Click for member's page].
