Tecumseh Council's Camp Hugh Taylor Birch in Search of Candidates for the Position of Camp Director

Job Description 

Position Concept:

The Camp Director is responsible for vision and mission implementation through themanagement of Camp Hugh Taylor Birch. The Director is responsible for day to dayoperations: resource allocation, budget accountability, overall supervision of the campprogram; and, has focused accountability to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) - NationalCamp Accreditation Procedure (NCAP), program design and sales strategies, policies andprocedures, partnership and relationship management, and supervision and developmentof seasonal staff. The Camp Director reports to the Scout executive.

Position Requirements:

1. Be at least 25 years of age.

2. Be able to be certified as a Camp Director from the Boy Scout National Camp School.

3. Be able to manage Camp Birch focused on the vision and mission.

4. Be capable of managing a $300,000 plus budget.

5. Have a general knowledge and understanding of outdoor camping facilities andprogram activities.

6. Be able to creatively problem solve and be flexible in dealing with daily managementand operations.

7. Be goal and task oriented.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

1. Supervise the Program Director, Events Directors, and family bash volunteers.

2. Oversight responsibilities through the directors of all seasonal staff.

Principle Responsibilities:

1. Ensure Camp Birch is NCAP compliant.

2. Act as liaison for all visiting National and Council BSA employees.

3. Ensure the implementation of the Scouting Program.

4. Implement training and background checks for all hired staff and volunteers.

5. Supervise Program Director and Events Coordinator in delivery of high-qualityprograms and customer service.

6. Develop annual business plan tailored to maximize camp occupancy each year.

7. Work as part of a team to design rules and regulations for all Council operated camps.

8. Oversee and enforce rules and regulations of the camp.

9. Supervise and manage operating expenses.

10. Assess and develop security protocols for the camp.

11. Act as the liaison between troop leadership and the camp (Hospitality), maintainingyear-round relationships with troops.

12. Develop informational materials that ensure clear communication of what Camp Birch offers. This includes, but is not limited to, the event guides and in-camp orientation.

13. Implement and track camper evaluations for all camp groups.

14. Manage staff and leader meetings.

15. Develop and maintain Camp Operations Manual.

16. Update and implement a staff development and training program: e.g. staff manualand staff evaluation procedures.

17. Oversee all camp staffing: application, interview, salary schedule, hiring, and contractpackage.

18. Responsible for staff supervision, discipline and dismissals.

19. Coordinate and implement an exit interview for each staff member at the end of everyseason.

20. Manage operational relationship with partner organizations.

21. Collaborate with the Camp Ranger on all camp activities.

22. Act as primary point of contact for customer conflict resolution.
