Update May 22, 2020

As the State of Ohio begins to make changes to stay at home orders and businesses begin to reopen, we wanted to provide a few updates and guidance to our local Scouting units.

The current guidance that was released earlier this week is as follows:

  • Recommends that all citizens, regardless of susceptibility to the virus, stay home as much as possible with the intent of lowering the spread of the disease.
  • Maintains the limit gathering to no more than 10 people with no mass gatherings.
  • People should observe social distancing of six feet with frequent handwashing and sanitization.

According to these guidelines, Tecumseh Council recommends that local units continue to conduct meetings virtually and to continue to follow all state and local health department guidelines.

As additional phases of Ohio reopening plan are announced and rolled out, the thoughts of many of our unit leaders and Scouts will turn to future activities. As you start to think about these, please be sure that you are also actively communicating with your chartered partner organization for additional guidance, policies, and permission to resume in-person meetings. There may be instances where chartered partner organizations will want to gradually resume activities with groups they sponsor and charter.

As additional updates are announced by the state and health department over the coming weeks, we will continue to keep you informed.

Future Service Opportunities

Throughout our history, “to help other people at all times” has been a central tenet of the Boy Scouts of America.  From World War I to the most recent tornados, Scouts have been there to help during difficult times.  We look forward to participating in the mobilization that will take place to bring back normalcy in our communities.  We are utilizing our connections to community leaders to see the needs.  If you have any ideas on how we can safely serve, please email Mike Taylor at [Email address removed].   Obviously, the safety of our youth and leaders are paramount in our future efforts.

Helpful Resources

These are interesting times and they continue to evolve daily.  As this situation evolves, we will do our best to bring you information as we receive it.  We are closely monitoring the CDC, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Ohio Department of Health.  Links to each of those websites are below: Link Link Link Link

We are Scouts and Scouters who do our best each day to live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.  Our Scout slogans of “do a good turn daily” and “do your best” ring true.  We will be called upon by society as we get through this pandemic so “Be Prepared” to lend a helping hand later.

Yours in Scouting,
