Bill Nelson has gone home to be with the Great Scoutmaster of all good Scouts

Tecumseh Council has lost a friend and decorated Scouter, as Bill Nelson has died at the age of 73.

Bill will be remembered as a man of integrity and that of a man who was loved by all who he touched. He most recently was serving a Tecumseh Council Activities Chair and was in the process of planning the 2014 Spring Camporall, which he had marked to be his best to date.

He is a Silver Beaver recipient and Legend of Tecumseh Council. Bill originally came to our area as a professional Scout executive, but then turned his attention to the volunteer side of Scouting, where he served admirably ever since. Bill was the council Course Director for Wood Badge C-9-99 and an avid reader/sharer of Boy’s Life Jokes.

He passed away around 10:30 a.m. the morning of Sept. 6, 2013, at The Ohio State Medical Center, after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

A gathering of family and friends was held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, in the Littletom & Rue Funeral Home. Bill's funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in First Baptist Church with Pastors Ken Whitt and Jason Alspaugh officiating. Burial was in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tecumseh Council Boy Scouts of America, 326 S. Thompson Ave., Springfield, OH 45506, First Baptist Church, 638 S. Fountain Ave., Springfield, OH 45506 or Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, 300 W. 10th Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.
