Campmasters Wanted

Attention! Wanted: Experienced Scouters Who Love Camp Birch! Become a Campmaster!

Would you like to spend weekends at Camp Birch relaxing at camp and enjoying the great outdoors? Would you enjoy the camaraderie of other Scouters in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere?

The Campmaster Corps is a group of trained and registered volunteers who serve at Camp Birch as camp hosts. These volunteers are an essential part of year-around program and assist camp staff by answering questions, providing leadership in emergencies, and enforcing camp policies and procedures.  Campmasters select their own time and frequency of service but usually serve 2-4 times a year.  A normal weekend is Friday night to noon Sunday.  While at camp, Campmasters stay in climate controlled facilities with kitchenette, restrooms, and WIFI, so many volunteers bring along their families for a weekend retreat.

What Do Campmasters Do?

The Campmasters provide Commissioner Corps functions with the following goals:

  • Greet, check-in, and guide arriving units to their assigned campsite
  • On behalf of the Camp Ranger, assist units with set-up needs
  • Suggest program and camp resource ideas to unit leaders
  • Provide program support to unit leaders as needed or called upon. (This could be an opportunity for you to share your specialty skill, merit badge or talent to add to the unit's program).
  • Counsel unit leaders in the use of the patrol method
  • Be available to unit leaders and the Camp Ranger throughout the week-end to help with whatever  needs arise
  • Assist units with a smooth check-out
  • To minimize vandalism and property damage
