Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is the required outdoor training for all ScoutmastersExternal Link, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Leaders of Eleven Year Old ScoutsExternal Link, . These same skills will enable the Webelos Den Leader to hold a proper Webelos den overnight campout.

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout HandbookExternal Link. The course is also ideal for VentureExternal Link leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

A new ScoutmasterExternal Link, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Leader of Eleven Year Old ScoutsExternal Link is considered trained upon completion of Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Indoor Leader Specific TrainingExternal Link and the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills, which are the skills required for the TenderfootExternal Link, Second ClassExternal Link, and First ClassExternal Link ranks. Because emphasis is placed on a leader's previous knowledge of the skill rather than course attendance, a new leader can complete this course at an accelerated pace. The emphasis is on the skill, rather than on attending the course.
