BALOO and OWLS Training

BALOO & OWLS - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation & Outdoor Webelos Leader Training will take place April 28-29, 2018 at Camp Birch. Morning check-in begins at 7:30 am at the Turner Building. The course will start at 8 am. Overnight camping is a required part of this course.

Early bird registration is $20 and is available until April 14. Late registration is $25 and available until April 22. Registration fee covers course materials and meals (lunch, dinner and breakfast). 

Required items: Scout uniform, pen and notepad, water bottle, tent, sleeping bag, rain and cold weather gear, mess kit (plate, utensils, & hot liquid cup), personal hygiene items.

BSA requires the attendance of a Scouter who has completed the combined BALOO & OWL course for a Pack or Webelos Den camping event. Webelos leaders who have already have taken OWL are not required to retake this combined training

C32 - BALOO: Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their pack activities. BSA's Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. This course will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader.  The session also gives you the opportunity to meet other Scouters from your area, make new friends, and learn skill techniques with fellow leaders.

C33 - OWL: Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills Training is to help leaders learn how to provide a memorable camping experience for their Webelos Scouts and parents.  This course will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader.  The course also gives you the opportunity to meet other Scouters from your area, make new friends, and learn skill techniques with fellow leaders.  Leaders will also learn planning and developing resources for the the outdoor Webelos Adventures.

BALOO Participant Letter

Dear Participant:

Welcome to the April 28th & 29th BALOO course.

As a reminder you are also required to go to My.Scouting.com and take the eight BALOO modules prior to coming to Camp Birch.

Location: Camp Birch, Turner Building

Date: Saturday, April 28 – Sunday April 29 (this is an overnight encampment)

Arrive: Saturday between 8:00 and 8:45 am.  Eat your breakfast meal before you arrive.

Depart: Sunday, April 29 12:00 pm

Items You Need:

  • Tent, sleeping bag, ground pad (closed cell or insulated)
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Clothing appropriate to the weather
  • We highly recommend you wear hiking boots and not tennis shoes (to keep your feet dry (NO open toed shoes)
  • Mess kit
  • Pocket knife
  • Camp chair
  • Head lamp or flashlight
  • 2 pens or pencils and note pad

We will see you on the 28th of April.
