Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Training

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills Training

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills provides leaders with the basic outdoor skills needed to do the program right. The course is also ideal for VenturingExternal Link leaders and leaders of eleven-year-olds because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in conducting outdoor camping experiences.

New leaders are considered trained upon completion of Position Specific TrainingExternal Link and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills are the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout HandbookExternal Link are required for the TenderfootExternal LinkSecond ClassExternal Link, and First ClassExternal Link ranks and include: Animal Identification; Camp Site Selection; Cooking; Fire Building; First Aid; Map and Compass; Outdoor Ethics and Leave No Trace; Packing and Hiking; Plant Identification; Ropes — Whipping Tying Lashing; Woods Tools — Ax Knife Saw.

Because emphasis is placed on a leader's knowledge of the skill rather than course attendance, a new leader can complete this course at an accelerated pace.

Our goal is to help you learn the basic skills each Scout needs to learn from Scout through First Class ranks. You will notmaster these skills, but you will gain a basic understanding of each skill. Mastery will come after you leave our encampment and practice what you learn!

This overnight training will be Friday September 27 at 6:30 PM thru Saturday September 28, 2019 at 6 PM. The courses will be held at Camp Birch Training Pavilion.

Last day to sign up is September 24, 2019.

The early bird signup fee is $30.00 if registered by September 17 and $40.00 if registered after September 17.
