Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout HandbookExternal Link. The course is also ideal for VenturingExternal Link leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

New leaders are considered trained upon completion of Position Specific TrainingExternal Link and the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills are the skills required for the TenderfootExternal LinkSecond ClassExternal Link, and First ClassExternal Link ranks and include: Animal Identification; Camp Site Selection; Cooking; Fire Building; First Aid; Map and Compass; Outdoor Ethics and Leave No Trace; Packing and Hiking; Plant Identification; Ropes — Whipping Tying Lashing; Woods Tools — Ax Knife Saw.

This overnight training will be Friday October 23 at 6:30 PM thru Saturday October 24, 2020 at 6 PM. The courses will be held at Camp Birch Training Pavilion.

Last day to sign up is October 19, 2020.

The early bird signup fee is $30.00 if registered by October 15 and $40.00 if registered after October 19.
