2018 Popcorn Sale

Popcorn Sale Update

Popcorn Kickoff is August 1 at 6:30 pm in the Turner Building at Camp Birch. Attendance gives your unit 3% commission. Please RSVP to jenny.spencer@scouting.org as we will be serving dinner. Show and Sell orders will be due on August 4. The order form is on the website so that you may bring your order with you to the kickoff if you would like. Mark your calendars for the Michael Beck training on August 8. Leaders and Scouts are encouraged to attend. Attending this training gives your unit a 2% commission.

  • May 16th - Unit Kernal Training at 6:30 pm at the Camp Birch Turner Building

  • August 17th -  Popcorn Sort from 5 to 7 pm at the Camp Birch Dining Hall

  • August/September - Conduct individual unit popcorn kickoffs
  • September 11th - Inventory checklist due
  • September 14th - Mystery house clues start
  • September 14th - 4 weeks of Fill-It-Up Drawings start for $150 gift cards and continues through October 5th
  • September 24th - First Show & Sell payment due to the Council Office
  • October 24th - Popcorn Turn In Day 1 - Popcorn may be returned from 4 to 7 pm in the Camp Birch Dining Hall
  • October 27th - Popcorn Sale Ends
  • October 27th - Popcorn Turn in Day 2 - from 9-11 am in the Camp Birch Dining Hall - All popcorn must be returned to Camp on one of these two days!

New Commission Structure

  • Earn 3% by attending the Budget Training or UnitKernal traing.
  • Earn 3% by attending the Kickoff on August 1st.
  • Earn 2% by attending the Michael Beck Presentation & Pizza Party on August 8th.
  • Earn 2% by selling $200 per boy average based on your June 30th, 2018 membership number which is included on your popcorn materials envelope.
  • Earn an additional 2% bonus commission by selling $600 per boy average based on June 30, 2018 membership number.

New Prizes

  • Mystery Houses for 4 weeks! Clues will start September 14th and the first scout to find the house will receive $50 gift cards to the Scout Store in Springfield.
  • 4 Weeks of Fill it up drawings for $150 gift cards/ certificates to Dicks or Field & Stream.
  • Sell 10 Items and receive a Camp Birch/Tecumseh Council Fidget Spinner.
  • Sell $100 or more in Military Donations and receive a Tecumseh Council Military Salesman Patch. 
  • $1000 sellers earn 2 tickets for special showing of Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse on December 15.

Best Ways to Sell Popcorn

Show & Sell - Scouts can set up at a store fronts to sell popcorn; they could also set up at a craft show or festival. Show and sells are set up by the district popcorn kernals and units must sign up for these locations. You can also approach local businesses unique to your community for setting up to sell popcorn as well.

Show & Deliver - Scouts go door to door selling popcorn, but instead of ordering the popcorn and coming back later to deliver they have the popcorn with them at the time. They collect the money and give the customer the popcorn immediately—no second trip!

Take Order - Scouts go door to door or call people on the phone and ask them to buy popcorn. You could also take order forms to work, family events, etc. The order is then placed with the unit’s Popcorn Kernal and product is delivered on or after the November 10th distribution date.

Online - Scouts set up an online account and send emails to friends and family members to buy popcorn through the online site and the Scout receives credit for the sale. This would be especially convenient for out of state friends and Family.
