NRA Range Safety Officer and BSA Range Master Training

Fall 2018

Venture Crew 71 is offering combined National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Safety Officer (RSO) and Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Archery and BB Gun Range Master (RM) training on 7, 8 Dec 2018.  Classroom sessions will be from 5:30 PM to 10 PM on 7 Dec 2018, and from 8:30 AM to 5 PM on 8 Dec 2018 in the Training Lodge at BSA Camp Birch.  Practical applications will be from 1 PM to 5 PM on 15 Dec 2018 at the Camp Birch ranges during the December 2018 Shooting Sports Saturday. This training is approved by the Tecumseh Council Shooting Sports Committee (SSC) and is targeted for Scouters who have some experience in shooting and who are willing to help support Tecumseh Council Shooting Sports Activities.  This training, when passed successfully, will lead to recommendation to the NRA for certification as NRA RSOs and BSA certification as BB and Archery RMs.  These certifications will allow you to run Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, and BB ranges for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers in Tecumseh Council.  This training will be conducted by NRA Certified Training Counselors (TC)/Chief Range Safety Officers (CRSO) and BSA Certified Shooting Sports Directors (SSD).  You must be 21 or older to become an NRA RSO, and 18 or older to become a BSA Range Master. The NRA Certification is good for life as long as you pay renewal fees every two years. The BSA certifications must be renewed by a BSA SSD every two years.  All necessary materials for this training are included in the cost. The Individual course cost for this training is $30 for BSA Range Master and $70 for NRA RSO.  Those taking both courses will be charged $80.  An extra $25 will be charged for those not associated with BSA.  A minimum of 10 students will be required to hold this training and a maximum of 20 students will be accepted first come first served.  After NRA approval NRA RSO candidates will have to pay NRA certification fees of up to $50 on-line.  NRA Certifications last forever as long as NRA renewal fees of up to $30 are paid every two years.  You don’t have to be an NRA member to be an NRA RSO, but the NRA fees are lower for NRA members.  NRA Certification and/or Renewal fees are not included in the cost of this training.
