Tecumseh Council Climbing Training
We are running a climbing director training program at Camp Birch. This will work toward a local climbing director (local Level II Instructor) including training is the safe operation of our climbing tower and use of the natural rock face in John Bryan State Park. It is a 2 full weekend course with the dates being: April 7,8 & 9 and April 27, 29 & 30. The orientation night is Tuesday, March 14 from 6 to 9 pm at the Camp Birch Climbing Tower.
Tentative times for both weekends are:
Friday 6-10 pm
Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday 9 am to 5 pm
The fee will be $40 for lunches and snacks (bring cash or check to the training) and supplies.
This will be what national calls a full, local "level II" (or local director) training for 21 y.o. and older. However, it will also count for those 15 y.o. and up toward IIT and "level I" instructor, so if you have some older scouts interested that would like the training, we'd like to have them ... RSVP though, as we can probably train about 10 people maximum. Note: This is also excellent training to be a climbing merit badge counselor. This will include tower use and John Bryan natural rock face for both climbing and rappelling.
We are fortunate to have Mike Macku as our TPE (Training Program Evaluator) for part of the time during the course. Mike is a long-time climbing instructor for National Camp Schools and is super knowledgeable on all things climbing!
Please confirm your participation in the course (just email Matt below) so we can plan around the number of people.
